Hello y'all
How is everyone? I hope you all had a great Christmas and I hope you all have a wonderful new year.
Now, in this unit, I am going to write about peer review and how I feel about it. Well, I must say, I like peer reviews. What I like about peer reviews is that I get the feedback I need in order to be better. This is not just for this writing class, but it also goes for everything else in live. I always ask myself the question, "how can I get better in what I am doing?". I might think I did a terrific job, but will overlook mistakes. When someone else is reviewing what I did, they can see the mistakes I did not. So, it is a win win situation. Peer review also lets me get another perspective of the information I am seeking. I can be assured that I will give it my best.

Unit 6 blog
Hello all.
This weeks question is: Consider how my ideas about my topic could be influential in later research?
This is a hard question to answer, because I am not sure if my paper is even good at this point. I personally want to know about this topic, which is "Children and second hand smoke". I hope that my paper will wake up some parents and they think twice about smoking in their house, in the car and just around children. I hope to find so much information that I can say I really researched the paper and I know what I am talking about. I wish my paper could help others, who are writing a paper, on the same subject to verify my research. I hope to influence not just later research, but I also will have my friends who smoke reading it. Especially when they have kids. There is this myth, about cigarettes, that I hear all the time from my smoking friend, who are parents. It states that cigarettes have been classified as "good for your health" in the 50's and 60's. That many state that they also grew up around smoke and they are not sick. Yes, in the 50's and 60's, there was not research available to the people who smoked. They did not know how bad smoking really is. It started in the 70's that smoking became a health risk, not just to the person who smokes, but also to the people who live with them and do not smoke. I think that all that started with one article, and it grew from there. Now, in our time, we know what smoking can do to us, and our loved one, but many article on second hand smoke talk only of the adults. The children are kind of overseen in this. And the children are the ones that suffer the most. I just hope and pray that this paper will be a wake up call to people. The children are suffering and don't even know it. It takes years to get to the point where the Doctors see what second hand smoke did to them.

Unit 5 posting How has school influenzed my life so far?
Hello all,
this week I was asked to write about how school is influencing my life so far. This is not a easy thing to answer. After I enrolled in college, I asked myself why I wanted to put myself through all this again? Will it be worth it in the end? Will I get through this without washing out? Can I still learn?
Well, I found out that I am still able to learn even after all the time I have spend without schooling. It was a hard decision for me and my kids, for me to go back to school. There where many things to consider. Who is picking up on the chores around the house? I had to have my children on board in order to go back to school. My daughter also is in college and since she also has a child, it was so important to get through to my son. He is 17 years old and he has one more year of high school, than he also will be on its way to college. It was not easy to convince my kids that even I, in my advanced years, still have a shut at college. I do have three college degrees, all earned in Germany, right after high school. My kids thought that going back to college now, will somehow change the dynamic in our house. It sure did, because now everyone has to do more chores in order to survive. My son, after many talks and after he's seen my GPA, finally came on board. He was so scared that I would not succeed, but his doubts where eliminated. He has now started to study for his SAT's and he decided to get a degree in Law. So, next week, he will take his LSAT's. I have shown him and my daughter, that learning and college is not just for young out of high school kids, but also for people who want to better themselves. School has brought some good changes and some not so good changes, but all in all, I am very happy to have made the choice to go back to college. College has changed my life so much, because now I know that I am able to count on my kids. They will step in when needed and they will help out, no question asked.
I am hoping that, after I get my degree, I will be able to help my kids with their college work. I am pretty confident that I showed my kids to go for a dream, not just to dream about, but make it happen. It took a lot out of us as a family, but it also brought us closer together.

Unit 4 posting, why do we have to cite our sources?
Hello everyone.
This weeks assignment is to explain why we should cite our sources when writing a paper for school.
Well, one good reason would be to let the teacher and class mates know where my thought process goes and where it will lead too. It also means that I am going to give credit to the person who thought about the topic first. What I mean by that is that other people have researched that topic before, and have published their findings, for me and other people to read and to get their conclusion from it. The author has a right to get the credit for the work they put into the topic. Also, in order to not commit plagiarism, citing the source where the information comes from is most important. Plagiarism is not just a ethical problem, but it can also have legal consequences. I remember a few years back, a girl from a college, I forgot which one, published a book. She took parts from another book that one of her professors wrote and made it her own, without citing the professor. This was discovered and all the proceeds of that book where given to the professor. So, just because she forgot to cite her source, she was cut out of a lot of money, but not only that, she had another book in the making and her publisher dropped her. I think she payed dearly for her mistake, but it was right to do so. She had not right to pass her professors work off as her own and make a profit off it. So, now I can see why citing sources is not just important, but it is essential to writing that has to be researched.

My idea of being a blogger. Unit 3 assignment.
Hello everyone.
How was every one's Thanksgiving? Mine was good. I spend it with friends and my family.
In this post I am going to write about what it means to me to be a blogger. Starting out, I have to say that I did know about blogs, but have never written one myself. I found out that I like to write a blog, it can be educational to see what other people have to say and what their opinions are on certain subjects. It gives me more freedom to express myself. I can also find out what things are interesting to other people. My contribution to this would be to give my opinion and ask for other people to give me their take on it. This will help me to form a picture of a subject, that I might not be familiar with. It is also a way to express my opinion and maybe have my opinion challenged. I love good discussions and I enjoy getting my point across. Here I can do this without hurting any ones feelings. I am going to blog more about what it means to go back to college at my age. There are some people here that have the same problems as I have. Getting tips on how to manage time, when college and work are getting to much. Also, how to incorporate my family into this challenge, is important. So I am looking for tips on how to get everything under one hat, so to speak.
Now, I am going back to my class room to meet at the seminar. I am looking forward to any and all responses.
Till later

Can live get more complicated?
I guess I have to start to tell my story. On Easter Sunday this year, I was tboned by another car going about 100 miles an hour. He ran a red light and I was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Now, I have been on medical leave for 7 month and got my pink slip in the mail today. Well, time to get on with live. I have my children, and my dog to support. And there is my grandson, 2 years old. He is the love of my live. I guess, now I have to go on state welfare for medical insurance, since I still need a lot more surgeries on my hip, my shoulder and my tailbone. Well, lets see what will happened. I am going to try to post some pics of my children, and my grandson.
I also went to a wedding this Saturday. The girl of my best friend married. It was so great. The ceremony was outside and I can see how much Vanessa and Jason are in love. It was such a magical night.
Now I got to do my Math quiz. I hope I will do good. I have not done math since wow, can it really be over 20 years ago? I guess it is. I am so happy I made the jump to go back to college. I am going to be the best I can be and my children are learning from me.
Till next time.
Love you all
